Meet the Band

Mike Morrison

Mike grew up playing bluegrass, old-time and blues guitar, eventually branching out into rock and country.  He began performing full time in 1995 with country rockers Latigo Smith before moving on to help form regional powerhouse Hired Guns. 

 

Nowadays Mike carries a full schedule of guitar students, as well as being a first-call, freelance artist for a variety of genres.  Across the Pond is his first Celtic band.

Mike plays guitar, mandolin and adds Native American Flute and bagpipes when needed.

Dan Diviney

Dan has been playing whistles and bodhran at Irish sessions since 1999.    He was self-taught on both instruments and attended workshops and studied under Rob  Forkner (Metloef Drums), Tristen Rosenstock (Teada), Rolf Wagels (Cara), Jim Higgins (Altan), Eamon Murray (Beoga), All-Scotland, All-Britain and All-Ireland champion Martin O'Neill, All Ireland Champion Siobhan O'Donnell, Stiofan O'Brion, and 6-time All-Ireland and 2006 World Bodhran Champion Colm Phelan.

 

He performed on stage with John Whelan, Damaris Woods, Derek Warfield, Shane Farrell (Brayzen Heads & Pigeon Kings, Victor Gagnon (Seven Nations & Pigeon Kings) and Richie Newman (Cleggan, IR)

 

Dan hosts two traditional Irish seisiuns at the Garryowen Irish Pub in Gettysburg each month.  He recently picked up a guitar and began solo gigging

Molly Shortridge

Molly Shortridge (B.M., Temple University), started out her music career as a music therapist and classical flutist but became enamored with Celtic music over the years. When the pandemic hit, she was able to spend more time delving into the genre and began collaborating with guitarist, Mike Morrison and “Across the Pond”.

  

As an owner of a music and arts center, “The Perfect 5th”and also “The Fluteplace of Central PA”, she maintains a large teaching studio. Molly has taught flute pedagogy seminars at national and regional conventions, and workshops in colleges.  She has also performed in orchestras, ensembles, and as a soloist, throughout central PA and Italy. Additionally, she is a published artist who specializes in flute related artwork.

In “Across the Pond”, you can find her playing an array of flutes; from the silver Boehm flute, a wooden 6-holed Celtic flute, whistles, alto flute, piccolo, and more.

Lavinia Reid

Lavinia Reid is a third-generation fiddler, who started private instruction at age seven in Ithaca, NY. Her grandfather, a fiddling blacksmith from Cumberland, Md., jammed with her on Celtic tunes, and her mother was concert mistress of her high school orchestra. Lavinia was concert mistress of her junior high orchestra, but by high school played professionally.

 

She was a founding member of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, played four years with the Pro Musica String Quartet until her move to PA in 1999, and has also played in rock, blues, country and jazz-fusion genres with various bands through the years. She is also a gifted composer, focusing on children’s ballets, opera, and musical theatre. Her works have been regularly performed in both Pennsylvania and New York.
